MSJC women rout Barstow to stay unbeaten in conference

The Mt. San Jacinto College women’s basketball team continued their dominant season with a resounding 96-29 victory over Barstow on Saturday, February 8, 2025. The Eagles, now 21-3 overall and a perfect 12-0 in conference play, showcased their depth and defensive prowess in a game that was never in doubt.

From the opening tip, Mt. San Jacinto set the tone, outscoring Barstow 27-5 in the first quarter and 29-6 in the second to take a commanding 56-11 lead into halftime. The Eagles’ relentless pressure on both ends of the court overwhelmed Barstow, forcing 39 turnovers and converting them into easy points.

Princess McCauley led the offensive charge for Mt. San Jacinto, scoring a game-high 18 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc. McCauley also contributed four rebounds and three assists in just 23 minutes of play. Natalie Derla provided a spark off the bench, matching McCauley’s 18 points while knocking down four three-pointers and grabbing five rebounds.

Trinity Skinner was another standout performer, finishing with 16 points on 5-of-9 shooting, including 2-of-6 from three-point range. Skinner also added four rebounds and two steals, showcasing her versatility on both ends of the floor. Laisha Lazu controlled the paint, recording a double-double with 11 points and 11 rebounds, along with five assists and five steals.

Defensively, the Eagles were suffocating, tallying 25 steals as a team. Drasoni Kyles was a defensive force, recording eight steals and dishing out five assists in just 23 minutes. The Eagles’ ability to disrupt Barstow’s offense and create transition opportunities was a key factor in the lopsided victory.

For Barstow, Bailey Solano was the lone bright spot, scoring 13 points and grabbing eight rebounds. However, the team struggled to find any rhythm, shooting just 32.5% from the field and committing 39 turnovers.

Mt. San Jacinto’s depth was on full display, with 10 players scoring at least four points. The Eagles’ bench contributed 35 points, led by Derla’s 18 and Kohen Marshall’s 11. Marshall also added five rebounds and two assists in her 19 minutes of action.

With the win, Mt. San Jacinto remains unbeaten in conference play and continues to solidify its position as one of the top teams in the region.
