Hemet Planning Commission to consider apartment complex request, new church
The proposed apartment complex would sit at the corner of Elk Street and W. Stetson Avenue.

proposed 228-unit apartment complex returns to the Hemet Planning Commission on Tuesday after being delayed in January to allow developers more time to review conditions.

The Highpointe Aster River Oaks project would bring eight three-story apartment buildings to a 10-acre site at West Stetson Avenue and South Elk Street. The development includes studios and one- and two-bedroom units, along with a clubhouse, pool, gym and dog park.

Developer Highpointe Hemet I LLC is seeking a variance to reduce private open space requirements to 100 square feet per unit. City staff has prepared a Mitigated Negative Declaration, indicating the project would not significantly impact the environment.

The commission will also consider a conditional use permit for Bread of Life Church, which is already operating in a 4,850-square-foot space at the Meridian Shopping Center on East Florida Avenue. The church holds Sunday services and distributes food and clothing, though city officials say the latter activities must cease if they become a nuisance.

Looking ahead, commissioners will discuss future agenda items including Freddy's Restaurant, a drive-thru restaurant proposal, and a general plan progress report.

The commission meets at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Hemet Public Library. Residents can attend in person, watch online via the city's website, or submit comments through teleconference.
